Holy Monday – Monday, April 11, 2022

The primary event of Holy Monday recorded in all four gospels is Jesus’ cleaning the temple and chastising the moneychangers.

Matthew 21:12 Jesus at the Temple
“Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of money changers and the benches of those selling doves.”

Mark 11:15
“On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. he overturned the table of the money changes and the bench of those selling doves.”

John 2:13-17 Jesus Clears the Temple Courts
“When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

Morning Prayer:

Father God, Jesus declared that Your house would be a house of prayer. We are like living stones being built up as a Spiritual house. Remind us today to pray without ceasing. This morning we confess our need for you and bring all our cares and concerns before Your throne. May we bring You honor and glory today with our thoughts, words, and actions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Evening Prayer:

Father God, we remember Jesus’ prayer from the cross for forgiveness for those who placed Him there. Thank you for bearing our sins and forgiving us every day. Tonight, we forgive the people who have sinned against us. Fill our hearts with the love, mercy, and grace that held You on that cross for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
